i explained to her my dilemma between going back to singapore for intern year vs staying in ireland for intern year, reason being to consolidate recovery.
sinead suggested that recovery always comes first. if it doesnt, it will come back and bite you in the back. i know that inside me, but i had let it slip, because i...

Pride and shame
The biggest lesson I learnt in medical school is this….. : The many faces of pride.
Because of pride…
I cared what other people think about me.
I was afraid to act in a way that would be different, because I cared about what other people thought, and I didn’t want them to defame me in any way.
I esteemed myself as more important than I actually am.
I was easily...
I thought that I was good enough Christian girl, seeking to follow God. I didnt realise how proud my heart was, and how far away I was from God. I drifted far away from God, I didnt love Him All the time I thought that He was judging me, for not trying hard enough.
but my God… he picks me up, each time I let him down. Each time I fall short of His glory, His forgiveness abounds. as long as...

The Just shall Live by Faith
Not only are we saved through faith; we LIVE by faith. Salvation commences with faith and continues the same way; we live the life the way we entered it. “The life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God”.
Success in the Christian life is measured by faith. Always the word of Jesus is, “be it to you according to your faith” (matt 9:29).
it is by...

Spoilt/pampered..
I am awfully spoilt/pampered.
Since I was young I dont remember a time when I didnt get what I wanted, when I didnt have my way. The world revolved around me and my wants,desires,wishes.. I just always had my way. Praying to overcome this.. I want to overcome this sense of “I want it now when I want it”, this self-centredness…How? only by the power of Jesus.. please save me,...
Regrets
hello jia :)
on this national day.. I am having many regrets. I humbly admit that I entered medical school with the wrong reasons. I entered it because I wanted to escape from singapore, because of the prestige and honor a/w doctoring, because i could go overseas, because I thought that it would be a way for me to have a good-enough identity.
but that was when I was still very much in ED...
Responsible children feel good about themselves
There are 2 types of kids : one gets up in the morning, says -“hey Look at that dude He’s all right! I like that guy, and I bet other people will like him too.!” the other type says “Oh no look at that girl. i really dont like what i see and I bet other people wont like her either”
Two radically different outlooks on life; two radically different...
How do we parent? : To raise responsible kids..
Parenting with love and logic: allowing kids to fail with love, letting the SIGNIFICANT LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES do the teaching, treating themselves right as a way of modelling healthy adult behaviour.
God gave all humans - His supreme creation - considerable freedom, and that includes the opportunity to fail. Failure and success are two sides of the same coin. If there had been no forbidden...

Dealing with conflict: learning to negotiate
Compromise: mutually acceptable agreement that benefits both sides although it is not completely what other side wants. But by compromising, both sides considered to win - they each have something that they want out of the situation. E.g. you have a demanding job and need to travel long way. To cope with the working week you have decided not to go out on evenings but to socialise only on weekends,...

Asking for what you want
Passiveness - unlikely to get what you want because you dont ask for it in the first place or because you ask in a way that makes it easy for people to response - you show that you don’t expect a positive response
if you are to succeed at getting people to listen to your needs, you need to ask assertively so that you relate to them on an equal footing without causing animosity or...
